In April and May, bulb fields can be seen in bloom in many places in the Netherlands. These bulbs are not grown for the flowers but for the bulbs themselves. The flowers are "topped" that is, the flowers are mowed off so the plant can put the energy into the bulb so it grows and then later it can be peeled off, creating several bulbs from one bulb.
