In April and May, bulb fields can be seen in bloom in many places in the Netherlands. These bulbs are not grown for the flowers but for the bulbs themselves. The flowers are cut off during flowering so that the plant can put the energy into the bulb, which then grows and can be peeled later to create several bulbs from one bulb.
