At the end of the Champs-Élysées stands the Arc de Triomphe (the l'Étoile). This is the big brother of the Arc de Triomphe du Carrousel, which is on the other side of the Champs-Élysées near the Louvre. Emperor Napoleon 1 had this triumphal arch built on the occasion of his victory in the Battle of Austerlitz in 1805.
The Arc de Triomphe du Carrousel is also called the Petit Arc de Triomphe to distinguish it from its big brother. In clear weather, you can look through the arch from the Louvre and see the big Arc de Triomphe. In very clear weather, there is even a view of the Grande Arche de la Defense. This 8 km long straight line is called the Axe historique or Triumphal Way starting at the Louvre pyramid and then the three ever-growing triumphal arches.
