Soccer club Nieuw Buinen is located in Drenthe, but leans on the provincial border with Groningen. The club was founded a hundred years ago, changed its name a number of times due to mergers, and so did the location of the sports complex. Since 1948, the club has been called as it is still known today - VV Nieuw Buinen - and plays its home games at Sportpark Buunerdrome on the Zuiderdiep in the village. The main force of Nieuw Buinen has been playing soccer in the First Division for years and even made three trips to the premier league. The main colour of the ambitious club is orange, which can also be seen at the sports complex. For example, the Bunermonders have a covered grandstand with a capacity of 300 places.
