I didn’t plan this one. I just looked up from the car while driving through Umbria, saw the sky on fire, and knew I had to stop. Moments like that—when nature takes over the whole frame—feel more like being handed a gift than creating a photo. I didn’t do much here except let the color speak.
The composition is as simple as it gets: horizon low, sky dominant. I kept it clean to let those pinks, purples, and oranges really stretch out. There’s a hazy layer of fog clinging to the low hills, and that soft texture ended up being what grounded the shot. No landmarks, no subject in the traditional sense—just layers fading into the distance like watercolor.
I exposed for the highlights in the sky and pulled the shadows up slightly in post to bring out some detail in the mist. But honestly, the best decision I made was just stopping the car. Some skies aren’t meant to be missed, and this one felt like a short-lived kind of magic.
