Trento is a city in the northern Italian region of Trentino-Alto Adige. It is known for the Castello del Buonconsiglio. Trento has around 120,000 inhabitants and is the seat of the Archbishopric of Trento and the University of Trento.
Trento's romantic historic centre is an architectural gem: the medieval city walls, the baroque Neptune Fountain on the cathedral square, the many magnificent and richly decorated palazzi, the cathedral and, of course, the Castello del Buonconsiglio are all worth seeing. The Torre Civica is a city tower in Trento and one of the landmarks of the provincial capital of Trentino. The city is charmingly situated between the Dolomites and Lake Garda.
Lake Garda, one of the northern Italian lakes, is the largest lake in Italy, named after the municipality of Garda on the eastern shore. The northern shore of the lake is surrounded by the two-thousand metre peaks of the Garda mountains, such as Monte Baldo, while the southern shore lies in the northern Italian lowlands. Lake Garda stretches across the three Italian provinces of Trento (to the north), Verona (to the east) and Brescia (to the west). These provinces belong to the regions of Trentino-Alto Adige, Veneto and Lombardy, which share Lake Garda.
