About the artwork
A tree with its shadow. And a square light 'spot' in that shadow.
This image was created during a holiday, while studying Photography at the Royal Academy of Art (The Hague), where I graduated Cum Laude in 2009.
The photo is part of the project "Handleiding tot een speelser leven," which aimed to portray playfulness, lightness, acceptance, chance. Less perfection, striving and planning. Because that's where we all... Or let me speak for myself: because I really do need that from time to time, as a change from all the usefulness, responsibility and seriousness.
This photo (as part of the photo series) has been nominated for several awards, and has been exhibited at the Nederlands Fotomuseum (Rotterdam), the Amsterdams Centrum voor Fotografie, Designhuis Eindhoven, Kunstmuseum (The Hague), Above Second Gallery (Hong Kong), Little Mountain Gallery (Canada), Breda Photo International photo festival and the Shanghai Biennale 2010, among others.
This work has not been substantively modified in a photo editing programme. Some colour corrections have been made, but otherwise everything you see in this photo has really been there.
And what about that square 'light spot' then? That is the imprint of a square tent. The grass is a bit lighter there, because a tent has been standing on it for a few days.
