Nature has created a truly unique landscape in the Serra de Tramuntana in the northwest of Mallorca.
The term Tramuntana in Catalan means "the north on the compass rose". This refers not only to the location of the mountain range in the northwest of Mallorca, but also to the cool north wind that blows across the mountains before there. Over a length of 88 km, the mountain range drops steeply to the northwest toward the coast, while gentle foothills slope toward the interior of the island.
Nature created wild gorges, which are mostly dry in the summer months, and more than 50 peaks that rise over 1000 meters above sea level. But despite the rather modest altitude, the Serra de Tramuntana shows a rather rough and rugged face. Here, nature is not stingy with size and beauty, which also looks different every day, because light, sky and vegetation are constantly changing. Anyone who has been here can understand why the Serra de Tramuntana was included in the World Heritage List in 2011.
