Collage of various images including my modern adaptation of "The Three Graces", painted around 1630 - 1635 by the Flemish painter Peter Paul Rubens.
The Graces were three sisters from Greek and Roman mythology. According to this Greek mythology they were the daughters of Zeus and Eurynome but in some stories they are also the offspring of Dionysos and Aphrodite (Venus), or of Helios and Aegle. According to Roman mythology they were the daughters of Bacchus and Venus.
The Graces are:
Aglaia, she stands for beauty and shine.
Euphrosyne, she stands for joy.
Thalia (or Cleta), she stands for blossoming happiness.
These are very interesting stories, but at least as interesting is the special, colourful combination between old and new in this work of art.
