Walking along the paths of the Camino Francés to Santiago de Compostela.
Estella Lizarra is one of the most monumental towns in Navarre. The town has impressive religious architecture (five churches, three monasteries and a basilica). A long list of noble palaces give a good idea the history of Navarre.
The Camino de Santiago meanders through the streets of Estella Lizarra and, influenced by the pilgrimage route, many of the monuments in this town are preserved.
For example, this is the entrance to the tourist office. It is located and gives access to the Baroque palace that housed the town hall and city courts in the past. It is next to the staircase and tower of San Pedro de la Rua (out of view).
During my walk to Santiago de Compostela, I came across many types of facades with doors decorated with beautiful texts, paintings, gable stones and or fine metal fittings. Sometimes they were also very dilapidated. I took a series of photos of them, some of which hang on my wall as a reminder of my inspiring journey. Now also here in my shop at Werk aan de muur.
