About "Time in texture - Megalith at Carnac"

About the artwork

Near Carnac, in French Brittany you will find one of the most impressive and mysterious prehistoric monuments in Europe. Together, these menihirs form one of the largest megalithic complexes in the world.
There are over 3,000 of them and they are spread over several kilometres, divided into 3 different fields. Some stones are more than 3 metres high.
The menhirs date from the Neolithic period, roughly between 4500 and 2500 BC. This makes them older than Stonehenge.
It is special to walk among these stones while nearby the 21st century rushes by. It is a special place of rest.
What is also special is that so far no one really knows how these stones got here and why they are here.
You can leave this to your own imagination.
Great to see how nature has worked the stones over time. Moss grows on them, hedera climbs against them. They blend into nature, so to speak.

On 12 July 2025, the Carnac Megaliths were added to Unesco's World Heritage List. Good news, as global recognition could lead to additional resources and expertise for conservation.

I visited them in September 2023 and was deeply impressed.
