Theodorus (Theo) van Wijngaarden (Rotterdam, 27 February 1874 - Voorburg, 4 November 1952) was a Dutch painter, restorer and forger. He lived on Sumatrastraat in Archipelbuurt in The Hague.
This painting, this portrait is a forgery of Vermeer's work and also has similarities with Girl with a Pearl Earring.
The Laughing Girl now hangs in the National Gallery in Washington. The painting was donated to the museum by Andrew W. Mellon. For years it was thought to be a Vermeer, since 1995 it has been attributed to Van Wijngaarden.
