The shrike is the smallest bird of prey we have in the Netherlands. They can especially be seen in winter on one of their lookouts to hunt for lizards or other small prey. They regularly impale these on the thorns of the hawthorn. In this picture, the shrike also sits on a hawthorn and is clearly looking for food. The shrike deliberately photographed from afar to include its surroundings.
