The Aruban burrowing owl (choco) lives in burrows on the ground in areas with low cactus vegetation and dry forest.

When the shoco cannot find a burrow, it digs its own in soft soil. Because much of the life history of this sub-species is still unknown, the population is being monitored within the Arikok National Park protected area. The shoco - Aruba's national symbol - is the endemic species most associated with Aruba. It is part of the local culture and has traditionally served as a symbol of wisdom and knowledge.
During a beach walk, this choco was discovered near his'n den. Luckily, I had the camera with me and managed to capture this beautiful picture. It is special to discover and photograph this beautiful yet shy choco.
