Fuseta is a small fishing village in the eastern Algarve, located half an hour's drive from Faro. It borders the beautiful Ria Formosa natural park. Southwest of Fusten are the salt pans, shallow basins filled with seawater from which salt remains after evaporation. This flor de sal consists of light crystals, pyramid-shaped and of extreme whiteness, which form on the surface of small salinas (salt flats). The salt forms a thin top layer, as it were. This layer is manually "harvested" daily with a special squeegee to ensure perfect conditions. The area is beautiful to see and great fun to cycle or walk through.
