Located in the Peruvian mountains, Machu Picchu is an ancient Inca city, long hidden in the dense forest before being revealed to the world in 1911. Built in the 15th century, this mysterious site rests on mountain ridges, with admirably preserved stone structures. The ruins include temples, agricultural terraces and residences, showing the complex organisation of this city. The site is divided into two parts: an agricultural zone with vast terraces, and an urban zone containing temples and ceremonial squares. The Intihuatana, a sculpted sundial, bears witness to the astronomical knowledge of the Incas. The views of the surrounding peaks and the Urubamba valley are breathtaking, attracting visitors from all over the world. Designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Machu Picchu remains a cultural and historical icon, offering travellers the opportunity to walk in the footsteps of the ancient Inca civilisation and discover their unique relationship with nature.
