Under a sky dotted with clouds, this photograph captures the majestic vista leading up to the temple of Borobudur, the Buddhist jewel of Java. Lined with slender trees and lawns dotted with white flowers, the path leads the eye to the imposing silhouette of the sanctuary, standing out against the light of Yogyakarta.
The path symbolises both the physical and spiritual journey towards enlightenment: the closer you get to the temple, the more the structure is revealed in all its complexity. The contrast between the vivid green and the dark stone of the monument evokes the union between nature and faith, between earth and sky.
Built in the 9th century, Borobudur remains the largest Buddhist temple in the world, a place where art, philosophy and devotion come together. In this composition, the symmetry of the landscape guides the eye and the mind towards this symbol of universal harmony. The soft, golden light underlines the timeless serenity of the place and the tranquil beauty of Central Java.
Passionate about photography, I travel the world in search of the most beautiful shots.
