The owls (Strigiformes) are an order of solitary birds with a mostly nocturnal lifestyle. Many owls have their eyes at the front of the head, so they have a large binocular field of vision, in which they can see depth. Owls have well-developed ears which are widely spaced, allowing them to determine the direction from which a sound is coming. These characteristics make owls good hunters. Because of their nocturnal lifestyle, they are sometimes called nocturnal birds of prey.
