A unique and also somewhat mysterious photo that could only have been taken at that specific moment. Did I say mysterious? I mean misterious of course, or is that a lame pun?
Anyway, on the morning of October 8, 2021, it was foggy in Rotterdam, especially near the Nieuwe Maas river. Now, dense fog is not ideal weather for photography, but when the fog lifts, conditions suddenly become very photogenic.
Here, as the sun breaks through and the blue sky becomes visible, we can see some patches of fog hanging around the Zalmhaven Tower. This is, for the time being, the tallest building in the Netherlands, and it is almost complete. Halfway up, you can still see the construction shed in which the tower was built floor by floor. That shed is on its way down and will soon be dismantled.
In the foreground the sailing yachts in the Veerhaven harbor and the surrounding buildings from the fin de siècle form a beautiful contrast to the sky-pounding high-rise behind them.
