About ‘The mixed culture in Lasem, Central Java’ by Anges van der Logt

The formation of the Chinese community in Lasem was inextricably linked to Lasem's strategic location on the north coast of the Java Sea. Many trade ships from different countries docked in the area. Over time, Lasem developed into a trading centre during the Dutch colonial period. Lasem's strategic location for trade also attracted Chinese on trade missions. They arrived by boat from southeastern mainland China. The main ports along the Java Sea coast also bordered the South China Sea, which encouraged Chinese settlers to settle in these port cities. Their economy in Indonesia developed even further than in China, which was afflicted with imperial restrictions. In developing their economy, the Chinese adhered to values such as perseverance, frugality, self-reliance, entrepreneurial spirit and skill, coupled with principles of social organisation that were easy to find and master.

At Art Heroes we do not mass produce or keep stock, but make to order. Your artwork is made with passion by experienced craftsmen and is on average ready for shipment in 7 business days. Details on the exact delivery date will be sent after placement of the order. Depending on the shipping country the following delivery times apply:

How will the package be sent?

We work with several carriers, mainly UPS and DHL (Depending on the country where it is delivered, this may vary). Couriers can also be used for large or fragile packages.

Canvas are securely packed in plastic bubble wrap and cardboard. Wallpaper and posters are sent in sturdy tubes.

A courier collects the package from us and takes the package to a depot where it usually stays overnight. The day after it is collected and delivered to your home or office. We work with courier services that specialise in handling fragile parcels.

Not at home? Then the delivery driver will leave a note and an appointment can be made to schedule a new delivery.

Unfortunately, there remains a chance that something can happen during a shipment. In the unlikely event that your parcel has been damaged during transit, please take a picture of the entire item, the damage, the entire package and a picture of the shipping label. Send these photos to us by email and we will solve the problem without delay.
