About ‘The largest salt flats in the world!’ by Daniël Schonewille

After a gruelling four-day and three-night trek through the high mountains of the Bolivian Andes, climbing up to 4,800 metres, we finally arrive at the Salt Plain of Uyuni or ´Salar de Uyuni´. As far as you can see there is salt in all directions and on the horizon the mountains seem to float due to the mirage effect.
The salt plain is at an altitude of 3,600 metres and covers some 10,500 square kilometres. The salt crust consists of eleven layers, all between two and ten metres thick.
Today, lithium is being mined on a small scale, hopefully on a small scale and we can enjoy the world's largest salt flats for a long time to come.
