The largest crane ship in the world, the Sleipnir, leaves the port and is on its way to a new job at sea.
The Sleipnir is a semi-submersible crane vessel by Heerema Marine Contractors that was delivered in 2019 by Sembcorp in Singapore. The name is derived from the eight-legged horse Sleipnir from Nordic mythology. GVA's design consists of two parallel pontoons, each with four columns containing the working deck.
The Sleipnir has two cranes from Huisman Equipment, each with a lifting capacity of 10,000 tonnes and a total lifting capacity of 18,000 tonnes, making it the largest crane ship in the world. For a long time this was the Thialf.
The vessel is equipped with a dynamic positioning system with eight rudder propellers of 5.5 MW each. It also has an anchor system with twelve anchor winches. Twelve 8 MW generators provide the ship with power and run on both Marine Gas Oil and Liquid Natural Gas.
On September 7, 2019, the hoisting of the deck for the Leviathan platform set a new record with 15,300 tons.
