About "The granite whale of Ramsvikslandet"

by Gerry van Roosmalen

About the artwork

In the rugged coastal landscape of Ramsvikslandet, where pink granite rocks battle the sea, the elements capture a unique play. In this picture, taken with a slow shutter speed, the eternal waves of the North Sea are transformed into a silky, milky veil. The calmness of the image is in sharp contrast to the dynamic force of nature on the ground.

The granite rocky coastline, eroded by centuries of wind and water, stands out sharply against the soft white haze of the sea. It almost seems as if the rocks rise from a sea of mist. This interplay between solid and liquid, hard and soft, creates a sense of timelessness - as if you have captured a moment of stillness in an ever-moving world.

This image, with its serene composition and subtle colours, captures not only the natural beauty of Ramsvikslandet but also the essence of Sweden's west coast. A reminder of the power and tranquillity that nature has to offer, it makes a perfect wall decoration to fill a room with inspiration and serenity.

The pink colour in the granite of areas such as Ramsvikslandet is mainly due to the mineral potassium feldspar (also known as potassium feldspar). This mineral is a major component of granite and can vary in colour from white to pink or red, depending on its chemical composition and the conditions in which it was formed.
