"The girl and the cloud" shows a hushed moment in an alienating landscape. A young girl, small and vulnerable, stands at the beginning of a monumental maze of rusty steel plates, recognisable as the work of Richard Serra. The plates rise high above her, their rusty skin warming in the diffuse light, and their round shapes seem to slowly embrace or perhaps capture her.
In her hand she holds a thin string. At the end of it floats a small cloud - a piece of air that has allowed itself to be tamed, soft and white against the hard, rusty mass. The cloud seems light and elusive, but follows the girl like a faithful companion.
Together, they take their first step into the labyrinth of steel.
The image raises questions: who leads whom, the girl or the cloud? Is it a game of control or of surrender? With subtle photographic manipulation, the line between reality and dream blurs.
The girl and the cloud is a poetic image about vulnerability, desire and the search for direction in a world of colossal shapes and temptations
