About "The festival of cut-off faces"

by Michael Ladenthin

About the artwork

Michael Ladenthin, a German artist from the Ruhr region, immerses the viewer in emotional and psychological worlds in his work "Das Fest der abgeschnittenen Gesichter".

The painting, created from a combination of oil and acrylic, unites expressionist and realistic elements that both confront and inspire reflection. Ladenthin prefers to work with primary colours such as yellow, cyan and magenta, which he masterfully combines with black and white to create a complex scenery.

The work depicts different zones of life characterised by themes such as encounters, love, separation and loss. In an expressive, almost dreamlike style of painting, Ladenthin leaves open spaces and voids in which the viewer can discover their own images and stories. The watercolour features of the painting contrast with the bold areas of colour, which offer scope for interpretation and lend the work a dynamic, almost psychotic energy.

"Das Fest der abgeschnittenen Gesichter" is a visual journey that picks up on the artist's inner perceptions while leaving room for personal interpretation. Each viewer is invited to discover their own feelings and stories in the abstract structures and thus find an individual approach to the themes of the work.
