The Rani Ki Vav, located in Patan in the state of Gujarat, is one of the most beautiful stepwells in India. Built in the 11th century under the Solanki dynasty, it was designed as an inverted temple dedicated to Vishnu. This subterranean monument impresses with its detailed carvings, depicting Hindu deities, graceful apsaras and intricate floral motifs. Each pillar and wall of the well is decorated with reliefs depicting mythological scenes.
This UNESCO World Heritage site is a true artistic and architectural feat. Its seven levels of steps lead down to a depth of 27 metres, offering a visual plunge into Indian history and spirituality. The remarkably well-preserved sculptures bear witness to the skills of the craftsmen of the time. Today, Rani Ki Vav is a marvel to explore, attracting lovers of history, architecture and photography.
