Pebbles, mostly the size of a fist, cover the beaches of the Alabaster Coast metres high. High cliffs frame the bays. But things are different in Saint-Aubin-sur-Mer. After a narrow pebble beach, the finest sand tickles the soles of your feet. The small seaside resort has the only
sandy beach on the Côte d'Albâtre. It is a well-kept secret! Saint-Aubin has remained tranquil to this day. Wonderfully nostalgic beach huts in pink, light blue, yellow and white line the beach promenade. Seagulls cavort on the pictures of doors, cliffs and fishing boats. Flags from all the countries of Europe wave in the wind above the huts. Black and white photographs on the flood defence wall tell of the beginning of life at the beach. The towel on the warm sand, the view towards the sea, the eyes watch a timeless scene. As in the past, the crew of the Jourdan III and the L'Mousse go out every day, weather permitting, and sell their fresh catch on the beach promenade. Every summer in July and August, a small beach hut there invites you to "Lire à la plage" - read on the beach! Or why not walk a little south from these pastel-coloured bathing huts along the edge of the surf to the Plage de Saussemare, which Georges Braque immortalised in his paintings? Agnès Varta was also enthusiastic and chose the sandy beach as the backdrop for her documentary film "Visages, Villages". Yves Robert had already filmed the comedy "Retour du Grand Blond" with Pierre Richard and Jean Rochefort there in 1974.
