Under a brilliant sky, the water palace of Taman Sari is revealed in all its silent beauty. Once reserved for the Sultan of Yogyakarta and his court, this place combined defensive architecture and royal refinement. The central pool, fed by small fountains, reflects the ochre walls and weathered roofs. In the centre, a staircase with pink steps leads to a pavilion where water and stone combine in soothing harmony.
Every detail evokes past grandeur: the thick walls, the symmetry of the pools, the delicate motifs carved above the arches. Today, calm reigns where once the laughter and murmurs of the Javanese nobility echoed.
The photograph captures both the poetry of the place and the melancholy of time. It bears witness to a unique architectural heritage, to an era when water symbolised purity, beauty and spiritual power.
Passionate about photography, I travel the world in search of the most beautiful shots.
