When morning settles over Milan like a soft blanket, Piazza del Duomo transforms into an oasis of calm and beauty, where the first rays of sunlight dip the square and the imposing Duomo di Milano in a subtle glow. This square, the epicentre of Milanese life for centuries, covers a sprawling 17,000 square metres and feels like a blank page in the early hours, ready to receive the stories of a new day. The air is cool and fresh, with a light dew covering the cobblestones and making them shine like a mirror of the still pale sky. The soft cooing of pigeons, the distant tinkle of an early tram and the rustle of the wind blowing through the nearby streets form a delicate symphony that enhances rather than breaks the silence. In these hours, before the city fully awakens, the square offers a rare moment of introspection, a chance to experience Milan in its purest and most undisturbed form.
