On a sunlit day, with the Faroese sky clear and blue, Kallur Lighthouse stands proudly on the edge of the cliffs of Kalsoy. The sharp lines of the lighthouse contrast with the vast green hills around it, which radiate an ethereal, almost otherworldly glow in infrared. What is normally the rich green of the islands now turns into a pale, almost silver hue, while the sky itself takes on an unreal quality.
The rugged beauty of the surroundings seems to disappear into the distance, the landscape becomes abstract, as if nature itself reveals its deepest secrets. The sun shines brightly, but the infrared light captures a new dimension of brightness, one that lies beyond the ordinary spectrum of vision.
This extraordinary photograph shows not only the power of the lighthouse as a guide to the ships, but also the silent power of nature, captured in a world only temporarily visible to our eyes.
