Situated between hilly forests, Nikko is one of Japan's main attractions. The Tōshō-gū sanctuary and other UNESCO World Heritage Sites indicate the wealth and power of the famous Edo period. The city is not very special, but the centuries-old temples that stand here and the natural surroundings make up for all that. Every year thousands of tourists come to visit these temples.
