Grundlsee is a lake in Austrian Ausseerland. The lake is surrounded by high mountains, and a small village stands on its shores. In winter, it sometimes partially freezes, giving it a character all its own.
Two winters ago, I stayed in Ausseerland, on the banks of Grundlsee. I have a weakness for the sunrise in the mountains, so I got up on time and, warmly huddled, sat on the shore to wait.
It was getting lighter and lighter. The sun slowly rose above the mountains and cast its rays on the sea. I took a picture against the sun, which ensured that the sun's rays were clearly visible in the picture.
When you shoot against the sun, you can't always immediately see what the photo will look like. This is because it appears very dark on the screen. So I had to wait a few more days until I could edit the photo and see the final effect on my laptop screen. It is still one of my favourite Austria photos's.
