Ferry the Sier sails from Ameland to Holwerd. The channel runs through the mudflats and clouds are reflected in the water.
The ferry was made at Scheepswerf Bijlsma and is named after a village on Ameland that disappeared into the sea. Sier was a fishing village at the extreme western tip of the island, west of Hollum, which disappeared into the waves around 1730.
