Black-and-white photo of the famous Seljalandsfoss waterfall in southern Iceland. The Seljalandsfoss is one of Iceland's most famous waterfalls, depicted in many photos and calendars. This 65-metre-high waterfall in southern Iceland is right on the ring road. Moreover, it is on the route to Þórsmörk, and it is possible to walk behind the waterfall on a slippery path. Like Skógafoss, 15 kilometres away, the Seljalandsfoss flows over what were once the cliffs of Iceland's former coastline. In the immediate vicinity of the Seljalandsfoss are a few more waterfalls, of which the Gljúfrafoss is often considered the most beautiful because it falls into a semi-hidden gorge. Not to be confused with the Gljúfursárfoss (gorge river waterfall) which can be found in eastern Iceland.
