Contrast in Perfection: The Red Bridge and Matsumoto-jo
This impressive work shows the famous Matsumoto Castle (Matsumoto-jo) in Japan, also known as the 'Crow Castle'. It is one of the country's rare original castles and a National Treasure of Japan.
The composition is dominated by the sharp contrast between the dark, elegant architecture of the castle and the bright orange-red bridge in the foreground. This bridge, which leads over the moat, emphasises the historical and military function of the building. The five-storey castle tower, with its traditional black wooden panels and white stucco, shows the strength and grace of the Azuchi-Momoyama period.
Taken in soft daylight, the work captures the details of the architecture, the reflections in the water and the imposing stone foundations. This is a timeless work for the lover of Japanese history and classic castle photography.
