Point your camera at the floor or a piece of furniture first, then move it slowly up towards the wall. A bare white wall is hard for your phone to recognise.
Move your phone gently from side to side. Holding it still or waving it around quickly does not help.
Make sure there is enough light. In a dark room your phone has nothing to lock onto.

Spakenburg's pier is the first thing you see when you enter the harbour by boat or ship. Made with a wide-angle lens so a lot of the sky could be included and the depth effect is great. The water was quite wild which adds to the effect. Converted to black and white.
