Do monks have all the time in the world? To what extent are there any similarities with our daily lives?
The importance of a monastery is to live in the here and now and to schedule the day at fixed times. The pace outside the Kloostermuren, however, is constantly increasing. This development is worrying me. With my photo series I show how life is without a busy schedule, with complete dedication. According to many, this subject is outdated and brothers and sisters would only be a marginal phenomenon. But according to me, nothing less is true. More and more young people enter the Monastery or come to rest for a few days. The importance of a Monastery is increasing in my time. What I want to show in the images is peace and quiet and the regularity of getting up, praying, eating and sometimes an appointment outside the door.
Celibacy does not exist since the beginning of Christianity. It was centuries ago
was introduced by the church itself and was to a large extent a socio-economic measure. Until then, priests (and also many Pope) were married, and the money and the goods that were received remained with the death of the priest in the family. Such families could become so richly rich.
