The Milky Way, the Milky Way galaxy or galactic system[1], from the Greek galaxias, γαλαξίας, or kyklos galaktikos = 'milk circle', is the medium-sized galaxy in which the solar system containing the Earth is located. From Earth, the Milky Way can be seen as a bright band that spans the sky, provided it is dark enough. Because of light pollution, the Milky Way is difficult or impossible to see in some places. The Milky Way contains 200 to 400 billion stars.
