The Illuminated Heart of Rotterdam: The Markthal and the Skyline

by Anthony Malefijt

Experience the vibrant energy of Rotterdam in this phenomenal night-time shot. From a unique high vantage point, you look down upon the Markthal, which dominates the city centre like a luminous work of art. The warm glow from inside beautifully illuminates the famous artwork on the ceiling, creating a magical contrast with the cool, deep-blue evening sky.

The composition draws your eye further into the city, past the clean lines of modern office buildings to the iconic red contours of the Willemsbrug. In the distance, the waters of the Maas glisten, gently reflecting the lights of the quays and ships. The characteristic spires of the nearby buildings and the city’s historic skyline are also captured in this image, creating a perfect balance between old and new.

This photograph is the ultimate ode to Rotterdam’s city centre; a place where bold architecture and urban conviviality go hand in hand. It is a powerful, atmospheric image that captures the dynamism of the city on the Maas in a tranquil, almost regal manner. Ideal for lovers of urban splendour and modern design icons.

Bring this masterpiece into your home. This photograph looks spectacular on high-gloss acrylic or aluminium, making the warm colours of the Markthal and the twinkling lights of the skyline truly leap off your wall.
