The Grote Kerk on Kerkplein in Meppel by KB Design & Photography (Karen Brouwer)

The imposing Grote Kerk (Mariakerk) has been the landmark of Meppel’s historic centre for centuries. In this photograph, the striking church tower is beautifully captured from the peaceful Kerkplein, where the warm evening sun casts a soft golden glow over the brick façades and the characteristic architecture. The cloudy sky adds depth to the scene, whilst the open space surrounding the church creates a tranquil and timeless composition.

This cityscape reveals a different side to Meppel: no hustle and bustle of shoppers, but a tranquil moment in which the historic town centre is shown to its best advantage. The combination of the monumental church, atmospheric terraces and the distinctive architecture of Drenthe creates an image that naturally captures the town’s atmosphere.

This fine art city photograph is a wonderful choice for lovers of historic Dutch towns, architecture and atmospheric evening photography. A timeless image of the Grote Kerk on Kerkplein in Meppel, where history, tranquillity and warm light come together.
