About the artwork

The colorado river in the Grand Canyon.
Beautiful view of the 'green' river.
You can find more pictures of the Grand Canyon in my album 'Grand Canyon'.
The river Colorado (Spanish: Río Colorado; English: Colorado River) is a 2,333 kilometer long river that originates in the American state of the same name Colorado in the Rocky Mountain National Park. The Colorado flows through the states of Utah, Arizona, Nevada and California in the southwest of the US.
Originally the Colorado, via a small piece of Mexico, ended up in the Gulf of California, but because all the water is used for irrigation, drinking water supply and other uses, the power nowadays stops before it reaches Mexico. It is only through an agreement with the United States that just under ten per cent of the world's population reaches the estuary. The water catchment area is 637 140 km² (of which 5 200 km² is Mexican territory). There are numerous large but also small tributaries in the catchment area. The Virgin, the Paria and the Kanab are a few of these tributaries.
The upper course of almost 1600 kilometres is very deep and steeply incised, resulting in many different canyons, such as the Glen Canyon. The tributaries in the basin have formed their own canyons. This is why the landscape is characterised by many deep gorges. The most famous gorge where the Colorado flows is the Grand Canyon. There's a lot of rafting on the river.
The river has many rapids.
