'The Tranquillity of the Rocks': a modern painting of the rocky coastline of Portofino in Italy

by Dirk van der Ven

This view of the cliffs of Portofino National Park brings a sense of holiday, freedom and tranquillity to any wall, whilst the wealth of detail never fails to captivate.

Bold charcoal lines capture the angular fractures and crevices of the steep cliffs at Punta Portofino. This work turns its back entirely on the familiar, colourful hustle and bustle of the fashionable marina. It seeks out the pure, primal force of nature. The massive rocks in the foreground contrast beautifully with the infinite distance. This immediately invites you to escape the hustle and bustle and enjoy that pure holiday feeling.

Warm earth tones flow gently across the rocks. Thanks to the dark charcoal lines, there is always something new to discover in the rock faces. This creates a unique effect that stimulates the imagination. The soft light falls beautifully on the layered textures of taupe, beige and grey. The bright blue colours of the sea and sky contrast beautifully with the green plants on the cliffs.

The natural, sketched forms lend the image a tangible sense of depth. This style complements modern interiors with a tranquil feel beautifully. Although the work exudes a deep sense of calm, the many hidden details ensure you never tire of looking at it. This makes this eye-catching piece an inspiring and timeless addition to both your home and workplace.
