The Breath of the Atlantic

by Walter G. Allgöwer

Between night and dawn, the Atlantic rises before Playa María Jiménez like a living being. The waves roll in, dark blue and powerful, shaped by the wind and the distance, as if they carried within them the stories of countless horizons. In the first light of day, they lose their heaviness and transform into flowing veils of light and water.
The sunrise remains hidden behind the moment, and yet its presence is palpable. A cool blue pervades the scene, gentle yet full of energy. The surf lifts like a curtain, revealing behind it only the mystery of the sea and the infinite expanse of the horizon. For a fleeting moment, time seems to stand still.
The water traces lines in the air, delicate arcs of spray that glide across the canvas of the morning like brushstrokes. Nothing has fixed contours. Everything is movement, change, memory. The wave forms, grows and fades, yet there is no finality in its fading. It returns, again and again, carried by the eternal breath of the ocean.
On the north coast of Tenerife, every crash of the waves tells of the power of nature and its quiet beauty. Anyone who contemplates this moment hears more than just the sound of the sea. They hear the whisper of the day just coming to life, and the timeless melody of the Atlantic, which has been lapping against these same volcanic shores for millennia.
