The lock complex was built in the 17th century and is a national monument. The Amstel locks were built in 1673, after the canal ring was enlarged.
The photo is executed in black and white and therefore gives it an artistic timeless look. Details are hereby emphasized in a beautiful way. Because color is missing, this can no longer give distraction. Composition, shapes, lines, fine gray nuances, structures and contrast ensure that this cityscape is a feast for the eyes and never bores.
