This temple consists of a mix between Thai and Chinese traditions. The 18 arm statue, in Chinese style, is a form of the bodhisattva of compassion and mercy, Avalokiteśvara. Also called Cundi.
Guanyin is considered a source of love and a protector of living beings. The arms are symbolic of her ability to reach out and offer help around the world.
This photo shows the path leading up to the large statue, revealing the different colors of the temple complex of Wat Plai Laem. The balustrade and tile work lead the view to the natural eye-catcher: the tall statue with the many arms.
