KLM Boeing 747-400M combi, the PH-BFV, sprayed in the most recent livery, taxies towards the Polderbaan for departure.
The phase-out of the Boeing 747-400 Jumbo jet at KLM will be completed by the end of 2020. What many people do not know is that only five aircraft in the KLM 747 fleet were full passenger aircraft. The remaining 17 examples of the 747 were so-called combis. In these, the front part of the aircraft was equipped for passengers. The rear section is equipped for carrying cargo. Behind the kitchen and toilets of the passenger section is a door to the cargo section.
The combis had to leave the fleet partly due to new legislation in the US. There, cargo is no longer allowed to be transported behind the passenger compartment. KLM's combis flew mainly to the US.
