Taktshang, also known as Tiger's Nest is built against a steep rock at an altitude of 900 metres above the Paro Valley in Bhutan. The 7 temples of this famous Tibetan monastery can only be reached on foot or on horseback. It was built in 1692 and Guru Rinpoche was the first to meditate there. Legend has it that Guru Rinpoche was carried on the back of a tigress from Tibet to the Paro Taktshang, hence the name 'Tiger's Nest'.
