About the artwork

Images of sphinxes from Greece are transported here. Both statues that are half man half animal have legs of a lion and the torso with breasts of a man, a woman. In the front cart there is one Sphinx with in the background two more naked hybrid human-animals with wings.

A sphinx is a mythical creature that occurs in different cultures. and sphinx was used in Ancient Egypt as a guard, among other things. The image of the sphinx was used to frighten enemies. Secondly, the sphinx was a symbol for 'the guardian of the sun'.

The Greek mythological sphinx occurs in the Oedipus myth. It also had wings and was feminine.

Max Beckmann (Leipzig, Saxony, Germany, 12 February 1884 - New York, United States 27 December 1950) was a German expressionist painter. In 1900 he began his painting training in Weimar. Four years later he settled in Berlin. He moved from Berlin to Frankfurt, where he became a special teacher at the Municipal Academy.

Beckmann is situated between the expressionism of Die Brücke and the anecdotism of the new professionalism or "Neue Sachlichkeit".

How will the package be sent?

We work with several carriers, mainly UPS and DHL (Depending on the country where it is delivered, this may vary). Couriers can also be used for large or fragile packages.

Canvas are securely packed in plastic bubble wrap and cardboard. Wallpaper and posters are sent in sturdy tubes.

A courier collects the package from us and takes the package to a depot where it usually stays overnight. The day after it is collected and delivered to your home or office. We work with courier services that specialise in handling fragile parcels.

Not at home? Then the delivery driver will leave a note and an appointment can be made to schedule a new delivery.

Unfortunately, there remains a chance that something can happen during a shipment. In the unlikely event that your parcel has been damaged during transit, please take a picture of the entire item, the damage, the entire package and a picture of the shipping label. Send these photos to us by email and we will solve the problem without delay.
