About ‘Symbol of hope in the Ahr Valley’ by Matthias Bertram
The fish is said to have been an ancient symbol of recognition for persecuted Christians in ancient Rome. The Greek original form "Ichtys" is an acronym in which one could recognise an early Christian creed. Two curved lines represent the outline of a fish. It was a sign of faith and hope.
