I took this photo during a walk from the First in Grindelwald. The wooden farmhouse immediately caught my eye: simple, old and clearly gone through a lot of weather over the years. That is precisely why it has character. It stood beautifully in the light, with the mountains of the Bernese Oberland in the background. I wanted to capture that combination, the human element in that big mountain landscape.
I stood at a slightly higher point and therefore had a good overview of both the hut and its surroundings. The warm tones of the wood blended nicely with the grass and sunlight. The snow-covered peaks behind the cottage provided a peaceful but distinct backdrop. I found the contrast between the weathered building and the imposing mountains interesting: it feels like this cottage has been around for a long time, while the mountains will be there for many generations to come.
My aim was mainly to capture the atmosphere of that place. Not a romantic Alpine picture, but just how it looked at that moment: quiet, sunny and a bit timeless. You hear nothing there except some wind and maybe a cow in the distance. It's one of those places where you automatically slow down.
For me, this is an image that shows how beautiful simplicity can be in the Alps. A quiet photo that fits well with interiors that love natural materials, warm tones and images that don't need to shout to stand out.
